The Open Source Community is backing OpenEnv for Agentic RL

OpenEnv provides a shared interface between AI training software and environments such as browsers or terminals. An environment exposes operations to reset it, take an action, and inspect its state, allowing compatible training software to use it without a separate integration for each environment. The June 2026 announcement places this work under a multi-organization committee and clarifies the project's scope: environment deployment and communication are shared infrastructure, while reward rules and training procedures remain with other libraries. That separation lets teams reuse environments while choosing how to score and train their agents.
