About
A cloud service desk for turning portal, email and chat requests into ticket queues and configured workflows. Current purchasing is through Service Collection. Ticket-handling users need agent licenses; customer requesters do not. Virtual-agent conversations, customer-service AI resolutions and other usage have separate allowances or meters.
At a glance
Jira Service Management Cloud turns requests from a portal, email or chat into a service team’s queues, workflows and response targets. It is worth considering when an inbox no longer explains who owns a request or what happens next. Current cloud pricing is for Service Collection, which bundles other service apps. Here an agent means a ticket-handling user; customer requesters do not need paid agent seats. AI usage has separate meters.
Good fit
IT and employee-service teams that need defined request forms, ownership and escalation paths, especially alongside Jira work. Templates supply request types and workflows rather than making every team build them from scratch. The dedicated REST API covers requests, comments, request types and queues for authorized integrations. The official Atlassian MCP Server also documents JSM operations access, including alerts and on-call information; that is not a test of automated ticket resolution. The included knowledge base needs an administrator to add a Confluence plan, but the licensing FAQ says separate wiki purchases are not required for its core service-desk article features.
Consider something else when
You need a small shared inbox without administering request types and workflows, or expect the entry plan to include all the advanced incident, change and virtual-agent features. The current pricing puts the virtual service agent in Premium and Enterprise. Cloud is the current collection offering; the separate Data Center product has ended new-customer sales and has a scheduled March 2029 end of life. Neither a portal nor a model replaces ownership of the service process.
Start here
Before adding customer information, have an administrator review portal access and organization-level data-contribution settings. In an authorized trial, a Jira administrator can create a service space from a Service management template. Start with one request type, preview its customer form and adjust the fields. Then submit a synthetic request through the intended channel and confirm it reaches the right queue and handler. This is the documented setup path, not a workflow performed during this review.
Cost and requirements
The public calculator on 31 October 2026 showed five Standard agents at $26.90 each per month, or $1,350 per year for the four-to-five-agent tier. Free supports three agents; customers do not require paid agent seats. Monthly licensing uses the cycle’s highest seat count. Premium/Enterprise include 1,000 assisted conversations per month or 12,000 per year, with additional usage starting at $0.30 USD per assisted conversation; an intent match counts even if escalated. Customer Service Management AI resolutions use a different meter. SSO, automation and other usage limits also affect the budget.
Limits to know
The trial inspected public pricing and licensing controls, not a configured service desk. Data-contribution defaults depend on the organization’s highest active plan, not just this app: Free/Standard defaults in-app contribution on, with an opt-out; metadata controls differ. CSV export can include ticket fields and comments but attachment URLs are not the files themselves, so it is not a complete portable help desk. Setup, routing, SLA enforcement, AI accuracy, API/MCP access and export recovery were not exercised. Evaluate one request end to end before committing the wider team.

What it can do
Apply request types and route work into queues
Customer request from a configured channel → Service ticket with a configured workflow
Read or manage customer requests, comments and request types
Authorized service API request → Service-management records within caller permissions
Query or update supported operations data such as alerts and on-call information
Authorized official MCP operations request → Supported operations context or update
Why it made the leaderboard
Makes request forms, ownership and service workflows explicit when a shared inbox is insufficient. Budget for the staff who handle tickets and the AI features actually used; a paid agent seat is not unlimited automated service.
