Us In Region Routing

Context

OpenRouter's regional routing covers where a request is decrypted as well as where the model runs, according to its September 2026 announcement. The company says requests sent to its US or EU hostname are processed within that region and forwarded only to providers operating there. The feature is available on its Business and Enterprise plans.

The restriction also changes failure behavior. If no eligible regional provider serves a model, the request returns a 404 instead of being sent elsewhere. OpenRouter says server tools that would move prompt or response data outside the region are disabled. This means region selection constrains the available models and tools, rather than merely expressing a preferred destination for processing.
