Same Cluster, 33 Points More Utilization: What Changed Was the Order

Context

A GPU scheduling shows how reserving capacity can leave installed hardware underused. The authors report that their allocator raised allocated GPU-time from 53.6% to 87.0% in one training-heavy, eight-GPU scenario. The 33.4-point gain compares against a scheduler that reserves peak real-time demand all day and queues other jobs by arrival order. Benchmark report

Their allocator instead schedules batch jobs around forecast demand and considers priorities across a planning horizon. This can reclaim otherwise idle reservations. The result measures scheduled occupancy, not computational efficiency inside each GPU, and depends on demand forecasts and the particular baseline ordering.
