Context
Google launched Google Pics, an image generation and editing tool built on its Nano Banana model family that's integrated directly into Google Docs and Slides rather than living in a separate app. Google says it can isolate and edit a specific object in an image without altering the rest of it, modify or translate text embedded inside an image, and generate several variations from a single prompt.
It's available now to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and most Google Workspace business customers, with support for Google Drive described as rolling out over the coming weeks rather than available at launch. The underlying Nano Banana models have been expanding steadily: an earlier release added search- generation and 4K upscaling, and AI Studio separately removed the need for a standalone API key for Pro and Ultra subscribers to use them.
