About

presence.el is an Emacs package that keeps a WebSocket connection to a presence server, showing in the mode line whether you and your followed friends are online, away, busy, or offline, and lets you send and read simple messages without leaving the editor. Each user registers once for a stable ID, which is shared with friends and mapped to a local alias that stays on the user's machine.

Why it made the leaderboard

A real IDE-integrated presence/messaging feature for Emacs users who want to see collaborators' status without leaving the editor.
