About

Charter is an open-source platform for running AI agents in production, defined via YAML and executed by workers in the user's own environment against a persistent control plane. It adds durable execution that survives crashes, human-approval gates on tool calls, spend/call budgets, lifecycle policies that pause or roll back misbehaving agents, and OpenTelemetry-based audit trails, while keeping model keys and data off the control plane.

Why it made the leaderboard

Companies currently rebuild the same agent lifecycle, approval, and guardrail infrastructure from scratch before they can run agents safely in production; Charter packages that as a reusable open-source platform instead of a bespoke stack.
