Context
Block CEO Jack Dorsey describes, in a Sequoia podcast, a plan to take over much of what managers do with a model of the company built from its own records: messages, pull requests, documents and recorded meetings. People would query that model instead of relaying information through layers of management. Dorsey says the deepest chain from the CEO to any employee is about five people at Block and the aim is two to three this year, with roles reduced to three: individual contributors who build or operate, directly responsible individuals who own a customer outcome, and player-coaches who develop others by doing the work.
This is a design plan, not a result. The essay behind it, From Hierarchy to Intelligence, dated 31 March 2026 and written by Dorsey and Roelof Botha, says Block is in the early stages, expects parts to break before they work, and reports no metrics. Dhanji Prasanna's account of the goose is in a related Intel item.
