About

Palette is a Figma plugin that generates a complete UI color system from a single starting color. It is built on ART, a new perceptual color language, and its underlying engine Orchestra, both created by the author to address longstanding designer pain points: colors shifting when lightened or darkened, mismatches between screen and print color, color ramps that clip near black, and accessibility math that previously had to be done by hand.

At a glance

Palette turns one brand color into coordinated ramps for a Figma color system. It is worth trying if you need a starting set of light and dark interface colors and want to compare contrast before assigning them to components.

Good fit

Figma designers building a new color system around an existing brand color.

Consider something else when

Keep your existing tokens if they already cover the roles you need, or check the paid export options if you must hand off variables or code.

Start here

Start with a sample brand color. Pick one text and surface pairing in light and dark layouts, then check the actual contrast before reusing it across components.

Cost and requirements

The vendor lists free palette generation without an account. Its USD $6 monthly Pro plan adds Figma variable export, code export and expanded contrast checks.

Limits to know

The contrast grid evaluates color pairings. It does not cover how text size, overlays, or interactive states affect the finished interface. Test the actual design before adopting the tokens.

Why it made the leaderboard

Solves recurring color-system pain points (shifting hues at different lightness, inaccessible contrast, cut-off ramps) that generic color-wheel tools don't handle well.
