models.dev, OpenCode's model registry, is getting a v2 API

we started this project over a year ago because opencode needed an authoritative list of models it now powers so many other products we're working on a v2 api shape now to better represent a few things https://t.co/7WSI52ZaxO

Context

Models.dev gives applications a shared catalog of AI models instead of requiring each product to maintain its own list. Dax says the project began to serve OpenCode and that its team is working on a second API format. The post announces work in progress without specifying a migration schedule.

The project documentation explains why the catalog matters: software can retrieve model specifications, pricing and capabilities in a machine-readable form. It also distinguishes facts about an underlying model from provider-specific details such as prices and serving limits. That distinction helps applications avoid assuming every provider offers an identical version of the same model.
