Context

GPT-6.1 Sol's lower price and Ultrafast's higher speed had different rollout schedules. In the September 29 announcement, OpenAI positioned Sol near Astra's capability at one-fifth the price. Ultrafast was available for Astra, while support for Sol was still planned.

The announced choices therefore separated the cheaper model from the newly available speed tier. The companion Ultrafast announcement provides the access details; the short post does not establish an eightfold speed increase for Sol at launch.
