Provisioning Machines using MCPs

Context

Fly.io's provisioning experiment shows an assistant moving from inspection to changing infrastructure. After adding storage-volume commands to its interface, the author asked the assistant to list volumes. It identified unattached storage, then deleted the oldest unattached volume when explicitly asked. The written account describes real resource changes through the existing command-line tool.

This extends the company's read-only logs-and-status experiment with consequential actions. The command-line tool's refusal to delete a mounted volume supplies one constraint, but an unattached volume can still contain valuable data. Deletion remains irreversible, so the conversational interface changes how an operation is requested without reducing its consequences.
