About
CiteGEO is a self-hosted, open-source tool for generative and answer engine optimization (GEO/AEO) tracking: it asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity the questions a brand's buyers would ask, keeps the full text of every answer, and records which brands each model named and in what order. Because it stores raw answers rather than just a score, users can trace any visibility number back to the exact sentence that produced it.
At a glance
CiteGEO sends a set of buyer questions to selected AI models and keeps the answers behind its brand-mention reports. It is worth evaluating if you want evidence you can read when a visibility score changes.
Good fit
Marketing or research teams tracking the same set of category questions across repeated runs.
Consider something else when
Use direct customer research when you need to know what real buyers saw or whether an answer caused a sale.
Start here
Choose three questions and one model. Repeat the run and inspect the underlying answers before interpreting any change in mention rate.
Cost and requirements
MIT-licensed self-hosted software with a documented Docker deployment. Model calls require provider access and may incur usage charges.
Limits to know
Results depend on prompts, models and sampling. The tool retains raw answers, and prompts go to the configured providers.
