Shlexball

About

Shlexball is a Mac app where you describe a file in plain English and a local model finds it, with files staying on the device. It uses a fine-tuned Qwen2.5 Coder 1.5B Instruct model on Apple's MLX that writes search plans, which a read-only sandbox then runs. The author reports 89.7% raw exact-match accuracy on 312 private FindBench tests (98.7% with plural forms added by the app), and notes the tests were written by the same generator as the training data and helped select the checkpoint. It requires macOS 15, Apple silicon and 16 GB of memory.
