Context
Cloudflare's Bot Preference Sync reduces the chance that a site's published crawler preferences disagree with its dashboard settings. The technical announcement says it generates robots.txt directives from category-wide Search, and Training preferences, adding them before existing file contents while preserving existing Disallow directives.
robots.txt communicates preferences to cooperating crawlers; blocking requests at the network remains a separate control. The announcement (Intel entry) also explains the automation's boundary: it tracks category policies and updates the covered bot list, but does not translate arbitrary custom rules for individual exceptions. Its useful role is keeping the published policy aligned as those categories change.
