We're excited to announce that today Python Workers are generally available (GA). It means Python is now a first-class, fully supported language on the Cloudflare Developer Platform. Read everything about it: https://t.co/ZwQe6IPd93
Context
Cloudflare's Python Workers reached general availability after roughly two years in preview, meaning Python is now a fully supported production language on the Workers edge platform alongside JavaScript, not a beta feature. Python code runs through Pyodide, a build of Python compiled to WebAssembly, inside the same runtime that runs Cloudflare's JavaScript Workers.
Cloudflare's own GA announcement says Python Workers now run frameworks like FastAPI, Django and Flask directly, with built-in connectors that remove the need for a separate web server, and get native access to Cloudflare's own services, such as its R2 storage and D1 database, without writing JavaScript glue code. It also proposes a new packaging standard, PEP 783, to make more of the existing Python package ecosystem installable in this WebAssembly environment, since packages built with native C extensions do not work as-is under Pyodide.
