The Pulse: What can we learn from Bun’s rapid Rust rewrite with AI?

Bun's AI-assisted rewrite depended on checking that the new code preserved existing behavior. The JavaScript runtime's first-party account describes separate implementation and review agents, human monitoring, and an existing TypeScript test suite that could run against both language implementations. Bun is part of Anthropic, whose coding tools were used.

The account reports 11 days from the start of the port to merging, and the merge came only after the full test suite passed on every supported platform. Merging was a separate decision from releasing. It also records 19 known regressions that required fixes, showing why a successful test run remained one stage in establishing confidence in the rewrite.
