Context
Krea is pitching Krea 3 as an image editing model built to be fast and cheap enough to run at volume. Its argument is that editing models are now good enough for production work such as placing a product in a new scene or making campaign variants, but the best ones have become slow and expensive enough that running them across a whole catalog adds up. Krea says most Krea 3 edits finish in under 8 seconds end to end at native 2K resolution and cost $0.06 per image, or $0.03 at 1K, with up to six reference images per edit (krea.ai).
The comparison Krea publishes puts Google's Nano Banana Pro at 33 seconds and $0.135 per image and OpenAI's GPT Image 2 at 90 seconds and $0.22, which at list prices works out to $6,000 a month for 100,000 edits with Krea 3 against $13,500 and $22,000. Those competitor times are Krea's own measurements: median time from request to finished image for edit jobs run on Krea's platform from September 24 to October 1, 2026, with queue time included, and the prices are list prices without reference images. The post also claims Krea 3 leaves untouched what a prompt does not ask it to change, such as a product label or a person's face, but supports that with example images rather than a measured .
Krea is candid that the model is not real time yet; its fastest setup finishes an edit in about 4 to 5 seconds, and it says it wants that lower. Krea 3 is available on krea.ai and through partners including fal, Together AI, Nous Research, OpenRouter and Replicate.
- Krea frames the launch around cost and latency: it says top editing models take about a minute and a quarter dollar per edit, which is fine for a hero shot but adds up across a whole catalog.
- In Krea's comparison, Nano Banana Pro took 33 s and $0.135 per image and GPT Image 2 took 90 s and $0.22. Times are medians for edit jobs on Krea, Sep 24 to Oct 1, 2026, queue included; prices are list prices without image references.
- In a Krea demo, the model replaced a sofa, chairs and table using product references while leaving the rug, view and a reading woman unchanged, aimed at updating one item in an already approved image.
- Krea says the model follows detailed briefs, turning a line drawing plus a six-color flat palette into a finished room without moving the camera, and keeps paintings, vector art and ink drawings in their own medium.
