About
A registry of agent skills for design engineers, distributed with a CLI (`npx ui-skills`) for browsing, listing by category, and fetching individual skills. The registry is also exposed to agents over Model Context Protocol with `list_skills` and `get_skill` tools, and the project publishes a playbook of distilled UI lessons drawn from the collection.
What it does
UI Skills is a collection of written instructions that teach coding agents how to build cleaner interfaces. Each skill is a Markdown rulebook, such as a baseline for spacing, typography and animation, or an accessibility checklist covering labels, keyboard access and focus. A small terminal command pulls the index and prints any skill's full text from the project's website, and the same catalog is reachable by agents through two remote tools, one to list skills and one to get a single skill.
Why it's ranked here
The bundled skills are specific enough to check against. The baseline rules forbid animating layout properties, cap interaction feedback at 200 milliseconds, and require a label on every icon-only button. The accessibility skill ranks nine rule groups by impact and tells the agent to prefer small, targeted fixes over rewrites. The interface audit skill demands three proofs before any finding counts and stops at three findings. That discipline, plus an MIT license and zero-install access, makes it a strong pick for anyone steering agents on front-end work.
What's good
The rules are written as MUST, SHOULD and NEVER lines with concrete values, so an agent can apply them and a human can verify the result. Each skill also supports a review mode that quotes the offending snippet, explains why it matters in one sentence, and proposes a code-level fix. The audit skill is strictly read-only on product code and writes plans for another agent to execute. The command line tool is small, reports clear errors, and flags ambiguous names by listing the candidates instead of guessing.
Tradeoffs
The baseline skill is opinionated about a specific stack: Tailwind CSS defaults, the Motion animation library, and accessible primitives such as Base UI, React Aria or Radix. Teams on other stacks will need to translate or skip rules. The command line tool has no offline mode; every command fetches from the project's website, so it fails without network access. Only a few skills are hosted in the repository itself, while the wider catalog points to skills maintained by other publishers, whose quality the project curates but does not author.
How to use it well
Run the start command to get the routing skill, then pull the one skill that matches the task, for example the baseline for a polish pass or the accessibility skill before shipping forms and dialogs. Use the file review mode on a single component rather than asking for a whole app sweep. Connect the remote tools when an agent should pick skills itself. It does not test rendered output or run an accessibility scanner, so pair it with real browser checks.
Technical notes+
bin/ui-skills.ts is a dependency-free Node script that fetches a registry manifest and each skill's plain-text body from the site, overridable with the UI_SKILLS_SITE_URL environment variable; it exits 1 for usage errors, 2 for unknown commands, 3 for not-found or ambiguous slugs, and 4 for network failures. public/mcp.json declares the endpoint and the list_skills and get_skill tools. The site is Astro with a Cloudflare adapter per package.json. AGENTS.md says skills are registered in a single registry source file and local skill folders exist only when the repo hosts the markdown, as with skills/baseline-ui/SKILL.md, skills/fixing-accessibility/SKILL.md and skills/improve-ui/SKILL.md.
