About

Full-stack React framework. React framework focused on web standards, nested routing, and progressive enhancement. Now merging back into React Router v7.

What it does

This is a from-scratch monorepo of small, single-purpose JavaScript and TypeScript packages for building HTTP servers and browser apps on native web platform APIs rather than Node-specific ones. Routing, cookies, sessions, file storage, multipart uploads, and a set of composable middleware pieces (CORS, CSRF, compression, logging) each ship as an independent package, then bundle into one umbrella package for everyday use. A separate first-party view layer replaces the React dependency the project used to carry.

Why it's ranked here

This project is a ground-up rewrite, not the framework the catalogue entry describes. The manifest's only dependencies are its own linter, formatter and parser; there is no runtime framework dependency at all, and the packages target Fetch API primitives instead of a React rendering layer. That is a genuinely different bet than the React full-stack tool it replaces, and only a beta release is installable right now, so this is a judgment on direction, not a settled, shipping product.

What's good

The package boundaries are strict: each piece works standalone, covers one job (cookies, headers, sessions, multipart parsing, request routing), and is documented on its own. Nothing here needs a bundler or compiler to run, including the tests, which keeps the code close to what actually executes in a browser or server. The same router and middleware run unmodified on several major JavaScript runtimes, so a team avoids locking into one hosting platform. Dependencies are kept to almost nothing by design.

Tradeoffs

Everything installs from a beta tag; there is no stable release today, and the project states it is under active development. The surface area is large, well over forty separate packages, which means real evaluation work rather than one obvious entry point. Anyone who arrives expecting a React framework, per the catalogue label, will find no React anywhere in the codebase, only a new first-party view layer that has not yet proven itself outside this repository.

How to use it well

This fits a team building a server or edge app directly on Fetch API primitives, standards-based headers, routing and sessions, who wants to pick individual packages rather than adopt a monolith, and who is comfortable running a beta release on a recent JavaScript runtime. It does not fit a team that wants a stable, documented, React-based full-stack framework today; that is a different project at a different point in time. Start with a single package before adopting the whole umbrella distribution.

Technical notes+

packages/fetch-router/src/index.ts exports createRouter, createMiddleware, createAction and createController built directly on the Fetch API, with route types described in a companion router-types module. packages/headers/src/index.ts wraps each HTTP header (Accept, CacheControl, ContentDisposition, Cookie, Range, SetCookie) as its own typed class rather than raw strings. packages/multipart-parser/src/index.ts exposes distinct error types for exceeded header size, file size, part count and total size, useful for tightening upload limits without extra code. package.json pins Node >=24.3.0 in its engines field and lists no runtime framework dependency, only its own lint/format/parser toolchain (oxlint, oxfmt, oxc-parser) plus TypeScript. AGENTS.md bans AI-attribution lines in commits and pull requests and requires every public API export to live in its own top-level source file rather than a barrel re-export inside a package's lib directory.
