Vinext 1.0 graduates from an AI experiment to a production-ready framework, letting developers run Next.js apps on Vite. This release brings advanced cache warming, broader compatibility, and an automated testing pipeline. https://t.co/z1kOPF7JC3 #BirthdayWeek
Context
Vinext is a Vite plugin from Cloudflare that reimplements Next.js's public API, its routing, server rendering, next/* module imports, and CLI, so a Next.js application can run on Vite's build tooling instead of the standard Next.js compiler. Cloudflare says the project started as a week-long AI-driven experiment in February 2026 and has grown, over the seven months since, into something customers now run in production for high-traffic, dynamic applications.
Version 1.0 supports the App Router, Pages Router, and hybrid applications, including React Server Components and Server Actions, and can deploy to Cloudflare Workers or to other platforms such as Netlify and AWS Lambda. Cloudflare frames overall compatibility with customer-requested features as exceeding 99%, but says that figure excludes the 'use cache' directive behind Cache Components, which it calls a lower priority for now, and it provides a compatibility-check command and matrix so a team can test its own application against Vinext before migrating, a narrower claim than production-ready might suggest on its own.
