About
This project packages a Nix flake that gets the desktop version of Microsoft Office 365 running on Linux through Wine, without the heavy virtualization prior workarounds have required since Office stopped working well with Wine after the 2007 release. It requires a valid Office 365 license and works best on Wayland with the latest GE-Proton; the author, working with the Claude Code agent Fable, describes it as a proof of concept rather than a reliably reproducible finished solution.
Why it made the leaderboard
Demonstrates a large, AI-driven systems reverse-engineering effort solving a long-standing Linux compatibility gap, though it remains an unpolished proof of concept.
