About

Hosted website builder with an editable design canvas, CMS, publishing and agent-assisted changes. Free and paid site plans have different domains and limits; editor seats, AI credits and add-ons affect cost. Official help gives conflicting advice about whole-site export, so a required migration path needs demonstration.

At a glance

Framer is a useful candidate for a portfolio, marketing site or content-led website when you want to shape the page visually and have publishing managed in the same product. Its canvas and CMS connect reusable layouts to structured content; agents can help create or edit that work. The tradeoff is adopting a hosted site workflow, with plan limits and an exit path to evaluate. A polished homepage example is not evidence that your own design, mobile layout or conversion rate will be good.

Good fit

Designers and small site teams who need to revise presentation and content together. A CMS collection can hold repeated items such as articles, while a shared detail-page design controls their layout. The current product also offers agent editing and a remote MCP connection for outside AI clients. The documented connection uses your account’s project permissions and can publish when instructed, so treat it as editing access to review, not a passive reference tool. Manual canvas and content review still matter.

Consider something else when

Your project depends on a guaranteed, independently maintainable code export or on owning the whole application runtime. Framer’s official help is inconsistent: one article says there is no standalone HTML export for self-hosting, while another says published site output can be downloaded and hosted elsewhere. Both show the same update date. Do not base a hosting or migration requirement on either broad promise without demonstrating the exact export and retained behavior. For a custom application you intend to develop and operate in code, Next.js is a different starting point.

Start here

After choosing whether to create an account, make a small private draft with one page and a few synthetic CMS items. Change a shared layout, inspect desktop and narrow-screen previews, and check that each item displays its own content. If a form is essential, the documented path is Insert → Forms; confirm the submission destination before any test. Review the result before publishing. This is a proposed evaluation: the public Get started entry reached login, and no editor project, agent task, form submission or published site was created.

Cost and requirements

A Free plan offers a Framer domain; a custom domain requires a paid site plan. On 31 October 2026, the inspected Yearly billing view showed Basic at $10 per month and Pro at $30 with their initial credit selections. Extra editors, localization, additional credits and other add-ons can increase the bill; checkout and taxes determine the actual total. Paid-plan AI credits are shared across the workspace and editors. CMS, page and bandwidth limits also differ, so estimate the site and collaboration needs rather than assuming the headline price includes every feature.

Limits to know

The editor was not exercised, so design quality, learning effort, publishing speed and a working migration remain untested. CMS content portability is distinct from reproducing a whole site: Framer documents plugin-based CSV/JSON export, but that does not establish a complete export of hosted behavior. Native forms can send data to email, spreadsheets or webhooks, and third-party scripts can add their own processing. Framer’s help distinguishes its service role from the site owner’s responsibility for collected visitor data. Review those destinations and permissions before collecting real submissions. No blanket privacy, accessibility or performance guarantee follows from managed hosting.

Still unclear

  • The exact migration/export path and preservation of required hosted behavior remain unresolved in conflicting official help.
  • Editor usability, real publishing, form delivery and the finished site’s responsiveness were not tested.

Why it made the leaderboard

A useful candidate for visually maintained portfolios, marketing and content sites. The public account boundary and pricing were inspected; no editor project or publication was tested. The guide separates CMS-data export from uncertain whole-site portability and explains connected-agent access and visitor-data destinations.
