OpenAI’s Sora is retired and is not a current choice for generating new video. Its web and app experiences closed on 26 April 2026, and the API closed on 24 September 2026. This page is useful for checking that status and finding the documented content-export route. Older descriptions of access through ChatGPT plans or the Sora API should not guide a purchase or new integration.

Good fit

Existing Sora users checking what happened to their content, and readers following older references to OpenAI’s video-generation product. The current public entry displays a retirement notice and an Export link. That establishes the route to investigate, not that every account still has recoverable content.

Consider something else when

You want to create a new clip or build a new video-generation integration. Sora’s former product demonstrations do not establish present availability. The API deprecation table lists the Videos API and Sora 2 models as shut down, with no recommended replacement in that table.

For existing content, follow the official notice to sora.chatgpt.com/sunset and choose Export if appropriate for your account. OpenAI says it will email when the export is ready and recommends exporting as soon as possible. The public notice and link were inspected; no account was opened and no export was requested or downloaded.

Cost and requirements

There is no current Sora generation plan to choose in this assessment. Buying a ChatGPT subscription does not reverse the announced discontinuation. Use the official discontinuation notice for refund and remaining-credit questions rather than relying on historical Sora plan descriptions.

Limits to know

The public page says content can be exported at any time, but the help notice also describes eventual permanent deletion after discontinuation and any final export window. Do not read the public wording as a promise of indefinite storage. No precise final deadline, account-specific availability, export completeness or recovery result was established here.
