Really into the idea of building tools to help you build other things easier. For the dithered Linear logo, I asked an agent to build me a tool where I can tweak the look of it and export the coordinates of each dot. This way I don’t have to ask an LLM to blindly try and recreate it, but just fine-tune with sliders instead. For the recent Linear Data release we had this beautiful ripped punched card design in Figma, but we knew an agent would not recreate this perfectly. So instead of asking it to build the final thing, I had it build me a tool that generates ripped paper patterns. Then we just picked one we liked. This allows me to achieve the result I want faster, without giving the steering wheel to the AI.
When an cannot nail a precise visual output, ask it for a parameterized generator instead and tune the result yourself. You keep control of the outcome and skip blind prompt-retry loops.
