AGENTS.md gives coding agents a shared place to find a project's working instructions. In its announcement, Factory described joining an industry working group convened by OpenAI to define the file: a Markdown document at the root of a repository containing installation steps, build and test commands, coding conventions and security guidance. Teams can keep these instructions beside their code and review changes through the same process. In larger repositories, additional files can describe package-specific requirements.
