Apple's iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 rolled out with a rebuilt Siri that goes well beyond voice commands. The assistant now keeps personal context across conversations, reads what is currently on screen and can trigger actions inside third party apps rather than only Apple's own. A new Visual Intelligence mode extends that further, letting Siri act on whatever content a user is looking at without them describing it first. For developers, the change matters because systemwide app actions turn Siri into a control layer that can reach into any app that exposes the right hooks, not just Apple's defaults. That shifts what an automation or assistant integration on Apple's platforms can assume it has access to, and it puts pressure on third party assistants that still require users to switch apps to get something done.

Context
Apple's September 14, 2026 software rollout brings a version of Siri designed to use personal and onscreen . The company says Siri AI can find information across messages, email and photos, answer questions about displayed content, and perform additional app actions. That expands the assistant's role from answering an isolated request to helping with information already on the device. Apple's announcement describes the capabilities and rollout conditions.
Access depends on more than installing the operating-system update. Siri AI began as an English-language beta on supported hardware. At launch, it was unavailable on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch in the EU, while supported Mac and Vision Pro users there could access it. The new AI features were also unavailable in China.
