Context
LangChain's OpenWiki now lets people browse the documentation it writes, not only the coding agents it writes for, according to the company's post. OpenWiki is an open-source command-line tool: an reads a repository and writes a linked Markdown wiki about it into an openwiki folder. The README at the time says the wiki is built for agents to read as memory, and each run keeps the AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md files at the repository root pointing coding agents to it. An explanation of the OpenWiki CLI covers how the tool writes and maintains that documentation.
The new piece is the openwiki visualize command. It serves the wiki on the user's own machine, at a loopback address the README says is never exposed on the network, and opens a browser view with an interactive node graph of the wiki beside a reader for the Markdown itself, updating as the files change. The post presents the graph as a way to see how sections of the repository relate to one another. Although the server is local, the page loads its graph, Markdown and diagram libraries from a public CDN, so it needs an internet connection. Because people browsing the graph see the same pages agents are pointed to, they can check what an agent is being told about the codebase.
Later releases built on this. LangChain added an export option on August 16 that writes the viewer as static files for hosts such as GitHub Pages, and on August 20 added integrations that let Codex and Claude Code write the wiki themselves, so the current README describes more than the post announced.
- AI agent — An AI system that doesn't just answer once but works toward a goal in a loop — taking actions, reading the results, and deciding what to do next.
- MCP — The Model Context Protocol — an open standard that lets any AI assistant plug into any tool or data source without custom integration code.
