Context

Among dozens of changes in Anthropic's Claude Code v2.1.304, the one with the clearest stakes is a fix to `claude --worktree`, the option that runs a session in its own git worktree, a separate working copy of the repository on its own branch (GitHub). According to the release notes, when a session ended with the worktree's HEAD detached or switched to a different branch, Claude Code removed the worktree and its branch at exit without asking, which could lose commits. This release fixes that behavior.

The same release also expands `/auto-mode-setup`, the guided setup that reads a project and recent sessions to teach auto mode about the environment, so it is available on Bedrock, Vertex, Foundry, the Claude apps gateway and telemetry-disabled sessions, and it adds an option for mods to require that only a person, through the permission dialog or a host callback, can approve a flagged tool call.

Key takeaways · AI-distilled
  • Claude Code v2.1.304 adds /auto-mode-setup, a guided setup that reads a project and recent sessions to configure auto mode, and extends it to Bedrock, Vertex, Foundry and telemetry-disabled sessions.
  • Mods can now return decider: "person" from tool.check, so only the permission dialog or a host callback can approve the call, and it is refused with the mod's reason when nobody can be asked.
  • The release fixes claude --worktree removing a worktree and its branch without asking at exit when HEAD was detached or on another branch, a case that could lose commits.
  • Code Review gains organization-wide review levels (Quick, Standard or Deep, overridable per repository) and an option to review every repository in a GitHub organization, including ones added later.
  • Pro and Max users now get a warning when resuming an inactive conversation would use a noticeable share of the 5-hour usage limit, with the option to start a new conversation instead.
