Context

NVIDIA is integrating the open Media Exchange Layer into Holoscan for Media, its open reference architecture and developer toolkit for AI-powered, software-defined live production. According to its IBC announcement, the layer gives software-based media functions an open way to exchange live video, audio and data across a distributed environment.

NVIDIA says developers can build applications that share accelerated infrastructure, connect dynamically and evolve independently, and that this can help media companies use infrastructure more efficiently and reduce the custom integration required between applications. It frames the result as a foundation for running AI processing alongside traditional media functions on the same infrastructure. The announcement states an intended benefit and gives no measured integration or performance results for this component.
