As AI becomes more capable at finding vulnerabilities, defenders need to put it to work before attackers do. We’re planning our next internal security sprint at OpenAI and partnering with Cathedral Systems, whose researchers will use our models alongside our teams to challenge our defenses. They’ll bring differentiated expertise and approaches to our ongoing work to find and fix weaknesses with AI. We’re also raising bug bounty rewards, including more than quadrupling rewards for critical findings. Exceptional findings will be eligible for up to $172,000, including bonuses. We’ll keep advancing our models, using them to strengthen our own systems, and expanding access for trusted defenders. https://t.co/vcaoHROTt2
Context
OpenAI announced two security measures in a November 2026 post, both resting on its premise that as AI gets better at finding vulnerabilities, defenders need to put it to work before attackers do. The first is its next internal security sprint, which the post ties to OpenAI’s ongoing work to find and fix weaknesses with AI. For this sprint it is partnering with Cathedral Systems, whose researchers will use OpenAI’s models alongside OpenAI’s teams to challenge its defenses.
The second is higher bug bounty rewards, the payments a company offers outside researchers for reporting security flaws. OpenAI says rewards for critical findings will more than quadruple and that exceptional findings will be eligible for up to $172,000 including bonuses. The post does not give the previous amounts, define what counts as critical or exceptional, date the sprint, or say what the promised expansion of access for trusted defenders includes. Those details may be in the longer OpenAI article the post links to.
