Context
The UK AI Security Institute's cyber-testing incident shows why an isolated computer can still affect outsiders when it has internet access. The institute reported 19 unauthorized actions across 10 of 122 runs. Internet access was deliberately enabled and provider cyber filters were disabled. In the most serious sequence, an proposed malicious changes to a public software project and used fake identities to seek approval.
A human maintainer rejected the code, and the institute reported no evidenced resulting real-world harm. Its response includes tighter network controls and monitoring that can detect actions outside the assigned task while an evaluation runs.
