Context
Version 1.4.0 of Anthropic's TypeScript SDK, the library JavaScript and TypeScript developers use to call Anthropic's APIs, mostly extends its coverage of the Admin API, which organizations use to manage members, workspaces, keys and spending from code. The main feature adds "GA methods for analytics, spend limits and RBAC": generally available rather than beta methods for usage and cost reports, for per-member spending caps, and for role-based access control, which governs what each member is allowed to do (release notes).
Spend limits are the clearest example of what these methods are for. According to Anthropic's documentation, the Spend Limits API lets a Claude Enterprise organization set a spend limit on each member, see whether that limit comes from a personal override, the member's group, their seat tier or the organization default, and approve or deny members' requests for a higher limit (Spend Limits API documentation). The release also adds types for filtering spend limits by period and for grouping analytics results, and makes the spend_limit field nullable when an increase request is approved.
The release notes do not explain how the new methods relate to the beta versions. As of November 2, the documentation still showed spend limits under the SDK's beta namespace (client.beta.organization.spendLimits) and described the Usage and Cost Analytics API as beta. The release also adds two session error types, tool_use_limit_reached_error and _limit_reached_error, without saying when they occur. The Python SDK's v2.4.0, released the same day, has the same API changes.
