Context
Black Forest Labs designed the FLUX.2 klein family to generate and edit images within the same model, including using multiple reference images. Its release description distinguishes versions optimized for quick responses from base versions intended for customization and further training. Choosing a variant therefore involves a tradeoff between immediate speed and flexibility.
The company says the four-billion-parameter model fits in about 13 GB of GPU memory. Those variants use Apache 2.0, while the nine-billion-parameter versions use its non-commercial license. The release's speed comparison used a GB200 accelerator, so its sub-second results should not be read as a timing promise for every consumer graphics card.
- distillation — Training a small, cheap model to imitate a big one's outputs, keeping much of the capability at a fraction of the cost.
