Anthropic previews Function Hooks as a deeper Claude Code plugin extension point

Anthropic's Function Hooks proposal would let developers customize Claude Code through TypeScript functions that intercept its operations and modify its interface components. The September 3 proposal describes plugins nested in registration order, so that an earlier plugin wraps later ones and can limit what they may do. That offers a programmatic place for workflow rules and interface changes inside the coding tool.

The original announcement explicitly said the feature had not shipped. In the same issue, a September 9 update said the team would call the functionality Claude Mods, built on function hooks, and an October 1 update said the team was live. The September post therefore records the proposal stage of a feature whose release is described in later comments.
