Open-weight model
Also: open model, local model
A model whose trained weights can be downloaded and run outside the maker's hosted API.
Open-weight models permit local or private deployment, inspection, adaptation, and control over the inference stack. They are not automatically open source: training data, code, or license terms may remain restricted. Closed models trade that control for managed infrastructure and often earlier access to frontier capabilities.
