Research and release status
An established academic laboratory. A missing Atlas model does not mean that SAIL has not published models or other research artifacts.
A long-running academic laboratory
John McCarthy founded SAIL in 1963. Stanford describes it as a collaborative setting for faculty, students, and visiting researchers, including work on human-robot interaction. Its institutional purpose includes developing researchers as well as producing technical results. [1]
Leadership needs dated evidence
The homepage announces Carlos Guestrin as director after Christopher Manning's 2018-2025 term. Some older pages still name Manning as director, so this dossier follows the explicit succession announcement and records the earlier role separately. [2][1]
Following the research
The homepage, blog, and StanfordAILab account publish research and community updates. Individual projects need their own paper, code, and model-card attribution; the lab's history alone does not establish the quality of any new release. [2]
