Transluce is an independent nonprofit research lab based in San Francisco that builds open, scalable tools for understanding AI systems and steering their development in the public interest. It is a 501(c)(3) organization co-founded by Jacob Steinhardt, a UC Berkeley faculty member who serves as CEO, and Sarah Schwettmann, formerly a research scientist at MIT CSAIL, who serves as Chief Scientist. The lab was publicly announced in October 2024.
