Career

Ewerlöf describes software work beginning in 1999, spanning embedded systems, web applications and site reliability engineering. His roles have included staff engineer, technical lead and technical product manager. He reports a master’s degree in systems engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in hardware engineering. His current homepage says he is exploring a staff or principal role in reliability engineering or AI advocacy, alongside advisory work.[2][1]

Contributions

Service Level Calculator is part of Ewerlöf’s work on service levels: measures of whether a system delivers the reliability users need. His product directory describes it as connecting service-level indicators to alerts, and lists related service-level applications, his reliability book and the Micromustache template engine. These tools and writing address different layers of engineering, from rendering text to deciding when a running service needs attention.[4]

Ideas

In Coding is NOT solved, Ewerlöf argues that producing source code is only part of software development. Engineers also read the code, connect its behavior to the larger system and use feedback to change it. He defines his own standard for a problem being solved as eliminating the need to inspect the AI output. That definition makes the essay an argument about oversight and responsibility, rather than a benchmark claim that coding models cannot generate useful programs.[3]

    Coding Is Not Solvedblog.alexewerlof.com

An engineering critique of equating generated code with a solved software-development process.

Start with Coding is NOT solved for Ewerlöf’s distinction between producing code and maintaining feedback about a system. It is an opinion essay grounded in engineering experience; no model-training background is needed.
