Free Claude Code runs a local proxy and administration interface. Users configure provider credentials, choose a model and connect a supported coding client through a launcher. An ordered fallback list can try another configured model after request retries fail. The project supports free-tier, paid and local options; provider availability and limits govern access. It explicitly identifies itself as independent of Anthropic, so its name does not imply official endorsement or unlimited access.[2]

Free Claude Code
github.comA local provider-management and compatibility layer for several coding-agent clients.
Read the provider and client setup first. You need command-line familiarity, a supported agent client and credentials or a local model; configure access and review the provider’s current limits before routing real work.
