Career
Iyer built developer platforms at Microsoft before founding Trusted, a childcare marketplace acquired by Care.com in 2018. His career subsequently included a visiting-partner role at Pear and a venture partnership at Lightspeed. He founded Canonical in 2022 and leads its early-stage investing across AI infrastructure, physical AI and agentic commerce.[3]
Contributions
Canonical Labs publishes interactive tools for founders, fund managers and investors. Dilution Lab models funding rounds, option pools and exit outcomes; Fund Modeler explores portfolio construction and fund-return measures. The common approach is to turn assumptions into adjustable inputs so a user can examine how a term or outcome distribution changes the result. These are the firm’s tools, without a claim that Iyer individually implemented each one.[1]
Ideas
In Agents Can’t Transact, Iyer argues that useful commercial autonomy needs more than a capable model. A counterparty must know an agent’s identity and authority, the agent needs a way to contract and settle, and its operator needs scoped permissions and an audit trail. He examines separate infrastructure layers, including bounded accounts and transaction-risk services. These examples support his investment thesis about missing infrastructure; the essay does not establish that the proposed market structure is complete.[4]

Agents Can’t Transactanandiyer.substack.comAn infrastructure thesis about identity, commercial settlement and operator control for agents.
Read the identity, market and control distinctions, then apply them to one proposed agent purchase. No coding is required; distinguish an investment argument about needed infrastructure from proof that a particular product solves it.
