Career
At GitHub, Nadeem helped build Semantic, an open-source library for analyzing code across languages, and developed a Template Haskell library for generating typed abstract syntax trees. These trees represent a program’s structure so tools can reason about it. Nadeem also describes earlier API work at Dropbox and work with Khan Academy and Microsoft Research.[1]
Contributions
Nuanced Canvas presents software design as a document that a person and coding agent can work through together. The product connects discussion of a specification with implementation in a codebase, giving decisions a persistent place for revision. Its product page establishes the intended workflow rather than independently proving a productivity gain.[3]
Ideas
“Plan mode is dead” recounts why an earlier Nuanced interface failed to give users the understanding its lengthy generated specifications promised. Nadeem distinguishes the activity of thinking through decisions from producing a document called a plan. The essay argues that faster code generation makes a coherent mental model more valuable, while adding more text can make that model harder to maintain.[2]

Plan mode is deadaymannadeem.comA product retrospective on the gap between generating a plan and helping someone understand a changing software system.
Start with the retrospective and compare its planning failures with a coding task you have delegated. Familiarity with AI coding tools helps; the argument is about maintaining understanding, not eliminating deliberate design.
