Carmine Paolino is a software engineer and founder of Plenty, a one-person software company. His work includes RubyLLM, AI applications and tools for building and maintaining Ruby software.[2][7]

Background
Paolino studied computer science at the University of Bologna and AI at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His account connects that period with work on social-network analysis and combining deep learning with music. He also helped run the Italian Gentoo Linux community. In August 2024 he announced his departure from Freshflow while retaining a shareholding.[1][8]
Career
He cofounded Freshflow, whose software helps supermarkets decide how much fresh produce to order. A founder interview identifies him as its CTO and discusses the operational work of building grocery demand-forecasting software. He now runs Plenty, bringing AI products, Ruby tools and desktop applications under one company.[1][2][5]
Contributions
A consistent Ruby interface for AI
RubyLLM gives Ruby and Rails developers a common interface across model providers. Applications can keep conversation history, stream responses, pass files and expose tools implemented as Ruby classes. The model requests a tool call, the application executes the Ruby method, and the result returns to the conversation. The framework also includes agents, structured output and evaluations.[3]
Turn architecture rules into executable checks
ArchSpec makes software boundaries explicit in Ruby rules: for example, which components may reference each other or which methods a service may call. It indexes code with Rubydex and a Prism syntax pass, checking conventions without booting the application or connecting to a database. The same checks can evaluate changes written by people or coding agents.[4]
