Career

Adler joined Sourcegraph in the fall of 2016 after working in consulting, investing and an earlier startup. In his introductory CEO note, he describes helping with early contracts, demonstrations, customer support, dashboards and code. His background includes a computer-science degree and business school. As CEO, he argues for combining the company’s search infrastructure with agent-based code understanding.[2]

Contributions

Adler’s company letter describes Deep Search as an agentic layer for asking questions across codebases and using results as context for another coding agent. Sourcegraph’s product combines search with a code graph to follow relationships and explain how a system works. His contribution is executive and product direction at the developing company; the implementation is a team effort.[2][4]

Ideas

His conference talk focuses on maintaining large repositories and collections of repositories as agents generate more code. An agent limited to its local files may miss dependencies, historical decisions and related services. Adler argues that code search and a shared index can give both people and agents access to that wider context before they make changes.[3]

A talk about codebase maintenance and the context agents need beyond local files.

Start with the examples of dependencies and related code outside one repository. The talk explains the maintenance problem without requiring a Sourcegraph account or knowledge of its implementation.

    Speaker[3]
  • Sourcegraph's CEO makes the case that large-scale code visibility is infrastructure for coding agents, describing codebase decay from AI output and introducing Agentic Batch Changes for cross-repo edits.
