Databricks

1 Intel

Databricks is a San Francisco-based data and AI company founded in 2013 by the academic researchers behind Apache Spark, Delta Lake, MLflow, and the lakehouse architecture, including Ali Ghodsi (CEO) and Matei Zaharia, who met at UC Berkeley's AMPLab. The company pioneered the open lakehouse paradigm — combining the flexibility of data lakes with the performance of data warehouses — and its unified Data Intelligence Platform is used by more than 20,000 organizations worldwide, including over 60% of the Fortune 500. By early 2026 Databricks had surpassed $5.4 billion in annualized recurring revenue and reached a valuation of approximately $134 billion.
