Career
Before founding his security companies, Kennedy was chief security officer at Diebold. His earlier US Marine Corps service included cyber warfare, forensics and intelligence work. He founded DerbyCon in 2011, co-founded the Penetration Testing Execution Standard and co-authored Metasploit: The Penetration Tester’s Guide. These contributions connect security consulting with tools and shared practices for assessing defenses.[1]
Contributions
The Social-Engineer Toolkit provides guided workflows for authorized social-engineering assessments. His separate btrpa-scan project examines Bluetooth Low Energy devices whose addresses rotate. It resolves private addresses using a known identity-resolving key and summarizes received signal strength over time. Its distance estimates depend on a noisy radio-strength model, so the estimated range is distinct from a measured location.[3][2]
