Sir Demis Hassabis is a British AI researcher and entrepreneur who co-founded DeepMind in 2010, the lab behind AlphaGo and AlphaFold. A former chess prodigy and video-game AI designer, he earned a Cambridge computer science degree and a PhD in cognitive neuroscience from UCL. He shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with John Jumper for protein structure prediction and was knighted in 2024. In August 2026 he stepped down as Google DeepMind CEO to become its chairman and Alphabet's chief scientist, while remaining CEO of Isomorphic Labs.
