Earendil Works

4 Intel

Earendil is a public benefit corporation founded by Armin Ronacher, the creator of the Flask web framework, and Colin Daymond Hanna, with a founding charter to craft software and open protocols and strengthen human agency. In April 2026 it acquired the Pi coding agent from its author Mario Zechner, who became a stakeholder, and launched the cloud agent platform Lefos. Its GitHub organization maintains Pi, an AI agent toolkit with a unified LLM API, agent loop, TUI and coding-agent CLI. The directory credits Earendil with posts including Pi 1.0, Pi Durable and Measuring the Sloppiness of Code.

Pi Durable(earendil.com)

Earendil releases Pi Durable alongside Pi 1.0, an experimental framework for long-running, failure-tolerant agents. It uses swappable storage backends, multiple execution environments and one transcript model, in a codebase small enough for an agent to read.

You Said No MCP(earendil.com)

Earendil explains why Pi added native MCP support: tools exposed to a JavaScript Codemode sandbox, deferred loading, and structured, discoverable tool design that makes MCP closer to OpenAPI.

Pi 1.0(earendil.com)

Earendil shipped Pi 1.0, a minimal, extensible agent harness. New in this release: Codemode, deferred tool loading, virtual models, cache warming and mid-conversation system messages. It also released Pi Durable, an experimental base for long-running agent apps.

AI Agents

A physicist-turned-engineer at Earendil dissects why LLM-as-judge and naive line-count metrics fail to catch architectural slop in formally correct AI-generated code, and argues human taste is still the missing evaluation layer.
