François Chollet is a French software engineer and AI researcher, best known for creating the Keras deep-learning library in 2015 and the ARC-AGI benchmark in 2019. He worked at Google from 2015 to November 2024 and wrote the book Deep Learning with Python. In 2024 he launched the ARC Prize competition with Zapier co-founder Mike Knoop, and in January 2025 the two co-founded Ndea, an AI lab pursuing AGI through deep-learning-guided program synthesis.

François Chollet argues that falling compute costs and scaling laws are not sufficient for general intelligence and outlines the ingredients he thinks are needed to reach AGI.
François Chollet discusses the ARC-AGI-3 launch, his roughly 2030 AGI estimate, and his new lab Indium's non-deep-learning approach, arguing scaling alone will not reach AGI.
