Career
Schott’s earlier owned biography records work at Box in 2013–2015, followed by platform and engineering leadership at WorkLife in 2015 and Google’s Polymer team from 2016. His work there involved Web Components and browser-platform tooling. He later built Snowpack and Skypack and helped create Astro. Astro’s January 2026 announcement says its company’s full-time staff joined Cloudflare while the framework retained its open-source license, governance and broader deployment targets.[1][2]
Contributions
Send JavaScript only where interaction needs it
Astro’s island architecture renders a page’s static content separately from interactive components. Individual islands can hydrate with client JavaScript when needed, rather than requiring the entire page to become one client-side application. This lets a content-driven site choose which interactions justify browser code.[3]
Let an agent’s capabilities evolve with its state
Flue 2 represents an agent as a TypeScript function evaluated on successive turns. Hooks attach state, models, tools and lifecycle behavior. The function can change its available tools after a customer is verified or select a different model when the task changes. Persistent state and dynamically attached capabilities make the workflow explicit in application code. The framework supplies structure; developers still own authorization and validation of consequential actions.[4]

Fred Schott's Flue reaches its first stable release built on React-style Agent Hooks, where an agent is a JavaScript function that re-renders before every model call and can manage its own state and attach capabilities mid-run.
